The area (in square units) of the region bounded by the curves y + 2 x 2 = 0 and y + 3 x 2 = 1 , is equal to

The area (in square units) of the region bounded by the curves y+2x2=0 and y+3x2=1, is equal to
  1. 34 sq. units
  2. 13 sq. units
  3. 35 sq. units
  4. 43 sq. units

Solution

To find point of intersection of two given curves

Put y=-2x2 in y+3x2=1

 x2=1

 x=±1

Let the given equations be y1=1-3x2 and y2=-2x2.

The desired area would be,

-11y1-y2dx =-111-3x2--2x2dx

=-111-x2dx

=x- x33-11= 1-13- -1+13

=23- -23

=43 sq. units .
