The adsorption of a gas at the boiling point of the gas follows the isotherm shown in the figure. Identify the correct thermodynamic properties at point $C$.
  1. $\Delta H=T \Delta S, \Delta G=0$
  2. $\Delta H>T \Delta S, \Delta G=+$ ve
  3. $\Delta H < T \Delta S, \Delta G=-v e$
  4. $\Delta H=T \Delta S=\Delta G=0$

Solution

Amount of gas adsorbed remains constant at point $C$ irrespective of increase in pressure. So, the system is in equilibrium $ \therefore \quad \Delta G=0 $ As we know, $ \Delta G=\Delta H-T \Delta S $ $ \therefore \quad \Delta H=T \Delta S . $
