The acceleration due to gravity at a height 1 km above the earth is the same as at a depth d below the surface of earth. Then
  1. d=12km
  2. d=1 km
  3. d=32km
  4. d=2 km

Solution

   Acceleration due to gravity in both cases are

Above earth surfaceg=g1-2hRe

Below earth surfaceg=g1-dRe
As per the problem,  g( 1 2h R e )=g( 1 d R e )

Simplifying the above relations, we get
d=2h

The depth is d=2×1 km
