Suppose a parabola passes through 0,4,1,9 and 4,5 and has its axis parallel to the y-axis. Then the equation of the parabola is
  1. 19x2+12y-79x-48=0
  2. 19x2+12y-79x+48=0
  3. 19y2+12x-79y-48=0
  4. 19y2+12x-79y+48=0

Solution

Let the equation of parabola be y=ax2+bx+c

Now given it passes through 0,4, 1,9 & 4,5,

Now on satisfying these points we get,

4=0+0+c .......1

9=a+b+4 ......2 as c=4

5=16a+4b+4 .....3

Now solving equation equation 2 & 3 we get,

a=-1912, b=7912 & c=4

Now putting in the equation y=ax2+bx+c we get,

19x2+12y-79x-48=0
