Speed of a sound in air

Speed of a sound in air
  1. is independent of temperature
  2. increases with pressure
  3. increases with increase in humidity
  4. decreases with increase in humidity

Solution

Speed of sound in air increases with the increase in humidity in air. The density of water vapour is less than the density of dry air at ordinary temperature, therefore the increase of moisture (humidity) in air decreases the density of air, which increases the speed of sound in air.
