Separation of Acetone and Benzene from their mixture is carried out by
  1. Fractional distillation
  2. Simple distillation
  3. Fractional distillation using fractionating column
  4. Distillation under reduced pressure

Solution

Acetone cannot be easily separated from benzene in high purity by distillation because of the closeness of their vapor pressures. Acetone can be readily removed from benzene by azeotropic distillation which is basically fractional distillation under fractionating column using certain aromatic hydrocarbons.
