Same current is flowing in two alternating circuits. The first circuit contains only inductor and the other contains only a capacitor. If the frequency of the alternating e.m.f. is increased, the values of current will
  1. decrease in first circuit and increase in the other.
  2. increase in first circuit and decrease in the other.
  3. increase in both circuits.
  4. decrease in both circuits.

Solution

For inductor, $I \propto \frac{1}{X_L} \propto \frac{1}{f}$ Hence, as frequency increases, current decreases. For capacitor, $I \propto \frac{1}{X_C} \propto f$ Hence, as frequency increases, current increases. .
