Resistance of the wire is measured as 2   Ω and 3   Ω at 10 ° C and 30 ° C…

Resistance of the wire is measured as 2 Ω and 3 Ω at 10°C and 30°C respectively. Temperature coefficient of resistance of the material of the wire is
  1. 0.033C-1
  2. -0.033C-1
  3. 0.011C-1
  4. 0.055°C-1

Solution

Resistance of a material is related to temperature by expression R=R01+αΔT

Here, at 10°C, we have  2=R01+10α   ...i

And at 30°C, we have 3=R01+30α    ...ii

From equation iR0=21+10α

Putting this value in equation ii

3=21+10α1+30α3+30α=2+60α

1=30α

Hence, temperature coefficient of the material of wire is α=130=0.033°C-1
