Phenol is heated with a solution of mixture of $\mathrm{KBr}$ and $\mathrm{KBrO}_3$. The major product obtained in the above reaction is
  1. 3-Bromophenol
  2. 4-Bromophenol
  3. 2, 4, 6- Tribromophenol
  4. 2-Bromophenol

Solution

In acidic medium, $\mathrm{KBr}+\mathrm{KBrO}_3$ in turn produces $\mathrm{Br}_2$. Phenol reacts with $\mathrm{Br}_2$ (aq) to give 2, 4, 6 trinitrophenol
