Let x be the greatest integer less than or equals to x. Then, at which of the following point(s) the function fx=xcosπx+x is discontinuous?
  1. x=1
  2. x=-1
  3. x=0
  4. x=2

Solution

fx=xcosπx+xπ

fx=-1xxcosπx

[x] is discontinuous at all integers and xcosπx is continuous everywhere.

At x=0, f(x)=0, so it's continuous.

At other integral points, f(x) is discontinuous.
