Let S = z ∈ ℂ : z 2 + z ¯ = 0 . Then ∑ z ∈ S Re z + Im z is equal to _______.

Let S=z:z2+z¯=0. Then zSRez+Imz is equal to _______.

Solution

Given,

S=zC:z2+z¯=0

Let z=x+iy

z2=x2-y2+2ixy

z¯=x-iy

Now putting the value in z2+z¯ we get,

z2+z¯=x2-y2+x+i2xy-y=0

Now on comparing both side we get,

x2+x-y2=0 and 2xy-y=0

y=0 or x=12

Now if y=0; x=0,-1

If x=12 then y=32,-32

So, zSRez+Imz=0-1+12+12+0+0+32-32=0
