Let S = x ∈ R : 3 + 2 x + 3 − 2 x = 10 . Then the number of elements in S is:

Let S=xR:3+2x+32x=10. Then the number of elements in S is:
  1. 4
  2. 0
  3. 2
  4. 1

Solution

Given: 3+2x+3-2x=10

Now, let 3+2x=t3-2x=1t

So, 3+2x+3-2x=10

t+1t=10

t2-10t+1=0

t=5±26

t=3-22, 3+22

Now, taking 3+2x=3-22=3+2-2 we get, x=-2

And equating 3+2x=3+22 we get, x=2

Hence, the number of elements in S is 2
