Let Sn be the sum of the first n terms of an arithmetic progression. If S3n=3S2n, then the value of S4nS2n is :
  1. 6
  2. 4
  3. 2
  4. 8

Solution

Let a be first term and d be common difference of this A.P.

Given S3n=3S2n

3n22a+3n-1d=3×2n22a+2n-1d

2a+(3n-1)d=4a+(4n-2)d

2a+(n-1)d=0

Now S4nS2n=4n22a+4n-1d2n22a+2n-1d=22a+n-1d+3nd2a+n-1d+nd

=6ndnd=6
