Let P be the image of the point (3,1,7) with respect to the plane x-y+z=3. Then the equation of the plane passing through P and containing the straight line x1=y2=z1 is

Solution

   

Let F be mid point of AP

Line AP :x-31=y-1-1=z-71=λ

F3+λ, 1-λ, λ+7 lies in the plane

 3+λ-1-λ+λ+7=3

3λ= -6 λ=-2

F1,3,5

P-1,5,3     (using mid point F)

So required plane (containing line x1=y2=z1 & passing through P-1,5,3) is

x-0y-0z-0121-153=0       x-4y+7z=0
