Let I = ∫ a b x 4 - 2 x 2 d x . If I is minimum then the ordered pair ( a ,   b ) is

Let I=abx4-2x2dx. If I is minimum then the ordered pair (a, b) is
  1. 0, 2
  2. 2, -2
  3. - 2,0
  4. -2, 2

Solution

Given that, I=abx4-2x2dx

Let fx=x4-2x2

To draw it's graph, finding the points where it intersects the x-axis, put fx=0

x4-2x2=0

x2x2-2=0

So, x=0 and x=±2.

The graph of fx is,

From the figure, we get minimum area when -2x2.

Hence, the ordered pair can be written as a, b=-2, 2.
