Let for xRfx=x+x2 and gx=x,x2,x<0x0. Then area bounded by the curve y=fogx and the lines y=0,2y-x=15 is equal to _____ .

Solution

We have,

fx=x+x2=x;x00;   x<0

gx=x2;x0x;   x<0

So,

fogx=fgx=gx;gx00;gx<0

fogx=x2;x00;   x<0

And,

2y-x=15

Solving 2y-x=15 and y=x2, we get

2x2-x-15=0

x=1±114

x=3, -52

 

Required area

A=03x+152-x2dx+12×152×15

A=x24+152x-x3303 + 2254

A=94+452-9+2254

A=99-36+2254

A=72
