Let ( α , β , γ ) be the foot of perpendicular from the point ( 1 , 2 , 3 ) on the line x + 3 5 = y - 1 2 =…

Let (α,β,γ) be the foot of perpendicular from the point (1,2,3) on the line x+35=y-12=z+43. then 19(α+β+γ) is equal to :
  1. 102
  2. 101
  3. 99
  4. 100

Solution

Given: Pα,β,γ be the foot of the perpendicular from the point Q1,2,3 on the line x+35=y-12=z+43

Now, let x+35=y-12=z+43=λ

So, any point on the line is given by 5λ-3, 2λ+1, 3λ-4, so let the point be P5λ-3, 2λ+1, 3λ-4

Now, direction ratio of PQ=5λ-4, 2λ-1, 3λ-7

Now, the line and PQ will be perpendicular,

So, 55λ-4+22λ-1+33λ-7=0

38λ-43=0

λ=4338

So, the point Pα,β,γ=P5×4338-3, 2×4338+1, 3×4338-4

Then 19α+β+γ=195×4338-3+2×4338+1+ 3×4338-4

 19α+β+γ=19101+124-2338

19α+β+γ=101
