Let a,b and c be three non zero vectors such that b·c=0 and a×(b×c)=b-c2. If d be a vector such that b·d=a·b, then (a×b)·(c×d) is equal to

Solution

Given, 

a×b×c=b-c2

Using the vector triple cross product we have,

a×b×c=a·cb-a·bc

So, (a·c)b-(a·b)c=b-c2

On comparing both sides we get,

a·c=12,a·b=12

 b·d = a·b

b·d=12

Using vector cross-product formulae we have

(a×b)·(c×d)=a·(b×(c×d))

=a·((b·d)c-(b·c)d)       b·c=0

=(a·c)(b·d)=12×12=14
