A=3a,a

B=-3a,a is the image of A on y-axis

C=-3a,-a is the image of B in x-axis

D3cosθ,asinθ

Area of triangle ACD will be

123aa1-3a-a13cosθasinθ1

=3acosθ-sinθ

The maximum area of triangle is 3a2

i.e. 3a2=12

a=8
