Let A1,4 and B1,-5 be two points. Let P be a point on the circle x-12+y-12=1, such that PA2+PB2 have maximum value, then the points, P, A and B lie on
  1. a hyperbola
  2. a straight line
  3. an ellipse
  4. a parabola

Solution

P be a point on x-12+y-12=1, so P1+cosθ,1+sinθ.

Given A1,4 & B1,-5

PA2+PB2

=cosθ2+sinθ-32+cosθ2+sinθ+62

=47+6sinθ is maximum if sinθ=1

sinθ=1,cosθ=0

P1,2, A1,4, B1,-5

 The points P, A and B lie on the line x=1.
