Let A be the area bounded by the curve y=xx-3, the x-axis and the ordinates x=-1 and x=2. Then 12 A is equal to _____ .

Solution

Plotting the y=xx-3 and x-axis between x=-1 and x=2 we get,

Now area of the above region is given by A=-103x-x2dx+023x-x2dx

A=3×x22-x33-10+3×x22-x3302

A=116+103=11+206=316

Hence, the value of 12A=62
