Let A - 1 , 1 ,   B 3 , 4 and C 2 , 0 be given three points. A line y = m x ,   m > 0 ,…

Let A-1,1, B3,4 and C2,0 be given three points. A line y=mx, m>0 , intersects lines AC and BC at point P and Q respectively. Let A1 and A2 be the areas of ΔABC and ΔPQC respectively, such that A1=3A2, then the value of m is equal to :
  1. 415
  2. 1
  3. 2
  4. 3

Solution

Px1,mx1

 Qx2,mx2

A1=12341201-111=132

A2=12x1mx11x2mx21201

A2=122mx1-mx2=mx1-x2

A1=3 A2132=3 mx1-x2

  x1-x2=166 m

AC: x+3 y=2

BC: y=4 x-8

P:x+3y=2 & y=mxx1=21+3m

Q: y=4x-8 & y=mxx2=84-m

x1-x2=21+3m-84-m

=-26 m1+3m4-m=26 m3m+1m-4

=26 m3m+14-m

x1-x2=136 m

26 m3m+14-m=136 m

  12m2=-3m+1m-4

  12m2=-3m2-11m-4

  15m2-11m-4=0

  15m2-15m+4m-4=0

  15m+4m-1=0

  m=1
