White blood cells include neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils. Among these different types of WBCs, neutrophils are the most abundant and make 60-70% of the total WBCs present in the blood. Basophils are the least abundant WBCs and make only 0.5-1.0% of it. Eosinophils and monocytes make 2-4% and 3-8% of the total WBCs respectively.
Eosinophils also called acidophils have a bilobed nucleus, Basophils have two or three lobed S shaped nucleus, Kidney shaped nucleus or Bean shaped nucleus is present in Monocytes.
Basophils, neutrophils, and eosinophils are granulocytes. Lymphocytes and Monocytes, on the other hand, are agranulocytes.
Basophils appear in more number during allergic reactions or inflammatory reactions. They produce heparin to prevent blood clotting and histamine and serotonin to induce inflammation. Hence, option D is correct.
