The velocity-time graph of a body moving in a straight line is shown in figure.

The ratio of displacement and distance travelled by the body in time 0 to 10 s is

  1. 1:1
  2. 1:2
  3. 1:3
  4. 1:4

Solution

Area of upper rectangles, which will give us magnitude of the area under the velocity-time graph,

A1=8×2+4×4 =32

Area of lower rectangles, which will give us magnitude of the area under the velocity-time graph,

A2=4×2 +4×2 = 16

Therefore,

Displacement=A1-A2= 32-16 =16 Distance =A1+A2= 32+16=48

Hence, the required ratio would be

=1648=13
