Solution

The t2g (triplet, lower energy) orbitals are the dxy, dxz and dyz orbitals. The eg (doublet, higher energy) orbitals are the dz2 and dx2-y2 orbitals. These split d-orbitals are called t2g and egbecause they are split by the effect of the surrounding ligand ions in a crystal field.
