Statement I: By doping silicon semiconductors with pentavalent material, the electrons density increases.

Statement II: The n-type of semiconductor has a net negative charge.

In the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

  1. Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
  2. Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
  3. Statement I is false but Statement II is true.
  4. Both Statement I and Statement II are true.

Solution

Pentavalent material has excess free e- because we mix the impurities like phosphorus and arsenic having five electrons in the outermost shell. So e-density increases, but overall semiconductor is neutral. So we can say that Statement I is true but, Statement II is false.
