For a uniform rectangular sheet shown in the figure, the ratio of moments of inertia about the axes perpendicular to the sheet and passing through O (the centre of mass) and O' (corner point) is:

Solution

We will use Parallel Axes Theorem here,

Distance between OO' is,

OO'=12a2+b2=a24+b24

So, according to parallel axis theorem we have,

IOIO'=M12a2+b2M12a2+b2+Ma24+b24=M12a2+b2M3a2+b2=14
