Compound(s) which will liberate carbon dioxide with sodium bicarbonate solution is/are :

  1. A and B only
  2. B and C only
  3. C only
  4. B only

Solution

Compounds which are more acidic then H2CO3, gives CO2 gas on reaction with NaHCO3. Compound B i.e. Benzoic acid and compound C i.e. picric acid both are more acidic than H2CO3.

equilibrium favours forward direction and CO2 is liberated.

Equilibrium favours backward direction and CO2 is not liberated.
