In the Rutherford experiment, $\alpha$-particles are scattered from a nucleus as shown. Out of the four paths, which path is not possible?
  1. $D$
  2. $B$
  3. $C$
  4. $A$

Solution

As $\alpha$-particles are doubly ionised helium $\mathrm{He}^{++}$i.e. Positively charged and nucleus is also positively charged and we know that like charges repel each other.
