In the following circuit, a power of 50 watt is absorbed in the section $A B$ of the circuit. The value of resistance ' $x$ ' is

- $10 \Omega$
- $8 \Omega$
- $6 \Omega$
- $4 \Omega$
Solution
$\begin{array}{ll}
& \text { Using KCL, } \\
& \mathrm{I}=1+1+0.5=2.5 \mathrm{~A} \\
& \mathrm{R}_{\text {total }}=\mathrm{X}+2 \Omega \\
& \mathrm{P}=50 \mathrm{~W} \\
& \mathrm{P}=\mathrm{I}^2 \mathrm{R} \\
\Rightarrow \quad & 50=(2.5)^2(\mathrm{X}+2) \\
\therefore \quad & \mathrm{X}+2=8 \\
\therefore \quad & \mathrm{X}=6 \Omega
\end{array}$
