In the figure, if A & B are identical bulbs, which bulb glows brighter
  1. A
  2. B
  3. Both with equal brightness
  4. Both do not glow

Solution

For bulb $\mathrm{A}, \mathrm{I}_1=\frac{\mathrm{V}_{\mathrm{o}}}{\mathrm{X}_{\mathrm{L}}}=\frac{\mathrm{V}_{\mathrm{o}}}{\mathrm{w}_{\mathrm{L}}}=\frac{\mathrm{V}_{\mathrm{o}}}{\mathrm{w} \times 100 \times 10^{-3}}=\frac{10 \mathrm{v}_0}{\mathrm{w}}$ For bulb $B, I_2=\frac{V_0}{X_c}=\frac{V_o}{1 / w C}=V_o w C$ $=V_o w \times 10 \times 10^{-12}$ $\therefore \quad \mathrm{I}_1\gt\mathrm{I}_2 \Rightarrow$ Bulb A will glow brighter.
