In the electric network shown, when no current flows through the $4 \mathrm{\Omega }$ resistor in the arm EB, the potential difference between the points A and D will be:

1. $5 \mathrm{V}$
2. $3 \mathrm{V}$
3. $4 \mathrm{V}$
4. $6 \mathrm{V}$

Solution

Assuming potential at B = 0, then w.r.t. B the potential of other points are as shown in figure then

So, $V_A=9 \mathrm{V}$ and $V_D=4 \mathrm{V}$

$\therefore V_A-V_D=9-4=5 \mathrm{V}$
