In $\mathrm{Kjeldahl}$ 's method, $\mathrm{CuSO}_{4}$ acts as
  1. oxidising agent
  2. reducing agent
  3. hydrolysing agent
  4. catalytic agent

Solution

$\mathrm{Kjeldahl's}$ method depends upon the fact that most of the organic compounds containing nitrogen are quantitatively decomposed to give $\left(\mathrm{NH}_{4}ight)_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4}$ when heated strongly with conc. $\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4} .$ In this method $\mathrm{CuSO}_{4}$ acts as catalytic agent.
