In an LCR series a.c. circuit, the voltage across each of the components $\mathrm{L}, \mathrm{C}$ and $\mathrm{R}$ is $60 \mathrm{~V}$. The voltage across the $\mathrm{LC}$ combination is
  1. $120 \mathrm{~V}$
  2. $60 \mathrm{~V}$
  3. $\text { zero }$
  4. $\frac{60}{\sqrt{3}} \mathrm{~V}$

Solution

The voltage across $L$ and $C$ has phase difference of $\pi$ $\mathrm{X}=\mathrm{X}_{\mathrm{L}}-\mathrm{X}_{\mathrm{c}}=60-60=0$ Hence the resultant voltage across the combination is zero.
