In an ellipse, if the distance between the foci is 6 units and the length of its minor axis is 8 units, then its eccentricity is
  1. 12
  2. 75
  3. 15
  4. 35

Solution

Consider the standard equation of the ellipse

x2a2+y2b2=1,

The distance between it's foci is 6 , so, 2c=6 c=3

and given length of minor axis is 8 units,

hence, 2b=8  b=4

So, the value of a=b2+c2=42+32=5

Hence, e=ca=35
