In a sport event a disc is thrown such that it reaches its maximum range of 80 m , the distance travelled in first 3 s is $\left(\mathrm{g}=10 \mathrm{~ms}^{-2}\right)$
  1. 80 m
  2. 60 m
  3. 72 m
  4. 74 m

Solution

$\mathrm{R}_{\max }=\frac{\mathrm{u}^2}{\mathrm{~g}}=80 \Rightarrow \mathrm{u}=\sqrt{800} \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}$ $x=(u \cos \theta) t=\left(u \cos 45^{\circ}\right) \times=\frac{3}{\sqrt{2}} \times \sqrt{800}=60 m$
