In a series LCR circuit, the inductance, capacitance and resistance are L=100 mH, C=100 μFand R=10 Ω respectively. They are connected to an AC source of voltage 220 V and frequency of 50 Hz. The approximate value of current in the circuit will be _____ A.

Solution

Angular frequency, ω=2πf=100π rad s-1

Here, inductive reactance XL=ωL=100π100×10-3=10π Ω

And capacitive reactanceXC=1ωC=1100π×100×10-6=100π Ω=10π Ω

Now, impedance of the series circuit is  Z=R2+XL-XC2=R=10 Ω

Therefore,

IRMS=VRMSZ,

=22010=22 A
