In a given circuit diagram, a 5 V zener diode along with a series resistance is connected across a 50 V power supply. The minimum value of the resistance required, if the maximum zener current is 90 mA will be          Ω.

Solution

Voltage across, RL=5 V

i2=5RL

Also, voltage across R=50-5=45 volt

v=iRR=vi=45ii+i2

R=4590mA+5RL

Current in zener diode is maximum when RL
i20 and ii=i

So R=4590 mA=500 Ω
