If z   -   α z   +   α α ∈ R is a purely imaginary number and z = 2…

If z - αz + ααR is a purely imaginary number and z=2, then a value of α is :
  1. 1
  2. 12
  3. 2
  4. 2

Solution

If a complex number is purely imaginary, then it must be equal to negative of its conjugate.

z-αz+α=-z-αz+αz-αz+α=-z--αz-+α

z-αz-+α=z+αz--α

 zz-+αz-αz--α2=-zz--αz+αz--α2

z2=α2

α2=4 z=2

α=±2
