If y=asinx+(5+2x)cosx, then y''+y=

Solution

Given:

y=asinx+(5+2x)cosx  ..i

Differentiating w.r.t. x, we get

y'=acosx+2cosx-5+2xsinx

y'=a+2cosx-5+2xsinx

Again differentiating w.r.t. x, we get

y''=-a+2sinx-5+2xcosx-2sinx  ...ii

Adding i & ii, we get

y''+y=asinx+(5+2x)cosx -a+2sinx-5+2xcosx-2sinx 

            =-4sinx.
