If x = log e cot π 4 + θ and θ ∈ - π 4 , π 4 , then consider the following…

If x=logecotπ4+θ and θ-π4,π4, then consider the following statements:

I: coshx=sec2θ
II: sinhx=-tan2θ

Then which one of the following options is true?

  1. I is true and II is false
  2. I is false and II is true
  3. Both I and II are true
  4. Both I and II are false

Solution

Given, x=logecotπ4+θ

ex=cotπ4+θ

            =cosθ-sinθcosθ+sinθ

Now, coshx=ex+e-x2

             =ex+1ex2

            =12cosθ-sinθcosθ+sinθ+cosθ+sinθcosθ-sinθ

            =12cosθ-sinθ2+cosθ+sinθ2cosθ+sinθcosθ-sinθ

             =122cos2θ-sin2θ

              =1cos2θ

               =sec2θ

And, sinhx=ex-e-x2

            =ex-1ex2

             =12cosθ-sinθcosθ+sinθ-cosθ+sinθcosθ-sinθ

               =12cosθ-sinθ2-cosθ+sinθ2cosθ+sinθcosθ-sinθ

              =12-4cosθsinθcos2θ-sin2θ

              =-2cosθsinθcos2θ

            =-sin2θcos2θ

            =-tan2θ
