If x=3i^-6j^-k^y=i^+4j^-3k^ and z=3i^-4j^-12k^, then the magnitude of the projection of x×y on z is

Solution

Given x=3i^-6j^-k^, y=i^+4j^-3k^ and z=3i^-4j^-12k^.

x×y=i^j^k^3-6-114-3

=i^18+4-j^-9+1+k^12+6=22i^+8j^+18k^=211i^+4j^+9k^

Now, we know that the projection of a vector a on b is defined as a·bb

Hence, the magnitude of projection of x×y on z is x×y·zz

=211i+4j+9k·3i^-4j^-12k^3i^-4j^-12k^

=233-16-10832+42+122

=2×91169=2×9113=14.
