If the volume of a parallelopiped, whose coterminous edges are given by the vectors a=i^+j^+nk^ ,  b=2i^+ 4j^- nk^ and,c=i^+nj^+3k^ (n0) is 158 cubic units, then :
  1. a·c=17
  2. b·c=10
  3. n=7
  4. n=9

Solution

The volume of the parallelepiped is, v=a b c

11n24-n1n3=±158

112+n2-1(6+n)+n(2n-4)=±158

3n2-5n-152=0 or 3n2-5n+164=0

( D<0, no real roots of  3n2-5n+164=0)

n=8, -193    n=8, as n0

then,  b·c=2+4n-3n=10

a·c=1+n+3n=33
