If the slope of one of the lines represented by a x 2 + 2 h x y + b y 2 = 0 be the square of the other, then…

If the slope of one of the lines represented by ax2+2hxy+by2=0 be the square of the other, then a+bh+8h2ab is
  1. 3
  2. 4
  3. 5
  4. 6

Solution

ax2+2hxy+by2=0

Let the slopes of the lines represented be m, m2

  m+m2=-2hb and mm2=ab

  m3=ab
Now, m1+m=-2hb
On cubing both sides, we get
m31+m3+3m1+m=-8h3b3

ab1+ab+3-2hb=-8h3b3

b+ab-6hb=-8h3ab2
b+a+8h3ab=6h

b+ah+8h2ab=6
