If the mean of a data x¯ is 10 and if all the observations are multiplied by 2, then the mean of new data is
  1. 30
  2. 15
  3. 50
  4. 20

Solution

Let x1, x2, x3, ......xn be the observations

 Mean =x1+x2+x3+.....+xnn

 10=x1+x2+x3+......+xnn.....1

Now when observations are multiplied by 2, then new observations are

2x1, 2x2, 2x3......., 2xn

New mean =2x1+2x2+.....+2xnn=2x1+x2+.....+xnn

=2×10

=20
