If the maximum efficiency of a full wave rectifier is $\mathrm{x} \%$ and that of half wave rectifier is $\mathrm{y} \%$, then the relation between $\mathrm{x}$ and $\mathrm{y}$ is
  1. $\mathrm{x}=\mathrm{y}$
  2. $y=2 x$
  3. $x=2 y$
  4. $y=4 x$

Solution

Maximum efficiency of full wave rectifier $x=81.2 \%$ Maximum efficiency of half wave rectifier $y=40.6 \%$ $\therefore \quad \frac{x}{y}=\frac{2}{1}$ Then, relation between $\mathrm{x}$ and $\mathrm{y}$ is $\mathrm{x}=2 \mathrm{y}$.
