If the line through the points $(-2,6)$ and $(4,8)$ is perpendicular to the line passing through the points $(8,12)$ and $(x, 24)$, then the value of $x$ is
  1. $4$
  2. $\frac{1}{3}$
  3. $12$
  4. $-2$

Solution

$\begin{aligned} & \mathrm{m}_1 \times \mathrm{m}_2=-1 \Rightarrow \frac{8-6}{4+2}=\frac{24-12}{\mathrm{x}-8} \\ & \Rightarrow \frac{2}{6} \times \frac{12}{\mathrm{x}-8}=-1 \\ & \Rightarrow 4=-\mathrm{x}+8 \\ & \Rightarrow \mathrm{x}=4\end{aligned}$
