If the ellipse x 2 a 2 + y 2 b 2 = 1 meets the line x 7 + y 2 6 = 1 on the x -axis and the line x 7 - y 2 6…

If the ellipse x2a2+y2b2=1 meets the line x7+y26=1 on the x-axis and the line x7-y26=1 on the y-axis, then the eccentricity of the ellipse is
  1. 57
  2. 267
  3. 37
  4. 257

Solution

Given,

x2a2+y2b2=1 meets the line x7+y26=1 on the x-axis, so at x-axis y=0 putting in both equation and comparing we get, a=7

And x2a2+y2b2=1 meets the line x7-y26=1 on the y-axis where x=0 so putting in both equation and comparing we get, b=26

Therefore, e2=1-b2a2=1-2449

e=2549=57
