If the direction cosines of two lines are 2 3 ,   2 3 ,   1 3 and 5 13 ,   12 13 ,   0 ,…

If the direction cosines of two lines are 23, 23, 13 and 513, 1213, 0, then identify the direction ratios of a line which is bisecting one of the angle between them.
  1. 40, 60, 13
  2. 41, 60, 10
  3. 41, 62, 13
  4. 1, 2, 3

Solution

Given, the direction cosines of two lines are 23, 23, 13 and 513, 1213, 0.

We know that, the direction ratios of the line bisecting the angle between the lines whose direction cosines are l1, m1, n1 and l2, m2, n2 are proportional to l1+l2, m1+m2, n1+n2.

Hence, the required direction ratios are proportional to 23+513, 23+1213, 13+0=4139, 6239, 1339.

Thus, the direction ratios are 41, 62, 13.
