If the diodes are ideal in the circuit given below, then the current through the cell is
  1. 4 A
  2. 1.5 A
  3. 2 A
  4. 3 A

Solution

Diode, $D_1=$ reverse biased $(\mathrm{OFF})$ and diode, $D_2=$ forward biased $(\mathrm{ON})$. Because diodes are ideal, so voltage drop across $\mathrm{D}_2$ is zero. $\therefore$ Effective resistance, $R=3+2+3+2=10 \Omega$ Current through the cell, $ I=V / R=20 / 10=2 \mathrm{~A} $
